Sporting Gijon defends the almost 11 million euros invested in El Molinón.

What has happened?

The club demands a joint reflection on the stadium's long-term projection.

The Sporting maintains that “the present and the future of the Stadium require a serene reflection and a long-term vision” by the three actors involved in its operation: the City Council of Gijón, Molinón Espacio Urbano (MEU), and the club itself.

Why is it important for Sporting Gijon?

The entity focuses on the symbolic value of the Gijón field and recalls that “El Molinón – Enrique Castro Quini is one of the great sports, social, and emotional symbols of Gijón”.

The Sporting also introduces one of the sensitive points of the current scenario: the situation of the commercial premises of the stadium.

The entity recalls that “an investment of close to 7 million euros allowed the concession, in principle, for 40 years of the commercial premises located in the basement of the Stadium, with the possibility of extending the agreement for another 20 years”.

Currently, Sporting Gijon is in 9th place in the league, with 61 points, 18 wins, 7 draws, and 17 losses in 42 games, and a recent form of WWWLL. Their last result was a win against Granada CF by 1-2 on May 30, 2026.
